Hello Small Pawsers!

I hope you are all getting ready to have a wonderful Thanksgiving, even if it may look a bit different this year. We love you and miss you!

I wanted to give you an update on little 7 year old Poppy who recently had her right eye removed. Thanks to everyone who donated for her surgery!

Poppy is doing great and feels so much better!

Bonnie Ferguson, our Director of Adoptions is working on an adoption for her! Thank you all for helping her!

Next, I got this email yesterday and it seemed to be the perfect thing to share with all of you.

Right now. At this time.

Some of you will remember being with Small Paws back in 2003!

Enjoy this precious letter, shared with Teresa’s permission.

From: Teresa Shaefer at windyanne15@yahoo.com

18-year-old Abby Schaefer, taken today and adopted back in 2003. Still going strong!

“This is a wonderful report for our 18-year-old Bichon rescue from your organization. We adopted
“Kissy,” whom we named Abigail (Abby), in February 2003. She was 3 months old. Born October 26, 2002. She is now 18 years old. She receives chiropractic treatment for her back and neck.

She is now blind, but “sees” with her nose. She walks every night and now is on a special diet.
She has the best care any bichon could receive. We love our little girl. Yes, she’s old, but dearly
loved and cared for by us. She has special needs now but we’re glad to do whatever it takes for her to have quality of life.

We also adopted “Sister Sophie,” one of your Sound of Music kids, back in June 2003. She was born October 1, 2002. Shortly after adopting Abby, we decided she needed a playmate, so we
asked for another one of your adoptees. Sophie was a delight for us. She was a character!

Unfortunately, we lost her to lung cancer at the age of 13, back in 2016. Sophie received as much
holistic care for the lung cancer to keep her from pain and to have as much quality of life as possible. We are blessed with a veterenarian who uses traditional as well as holistic and natural
approaches.

These two girls have been the highlight of my life. I wish for all the bichon kids to receive parents who will be with them until the end and give them the best care possible. Thank you for giving these two girls to us. We have loved them to the depth of our hearts. Abby is still with us and doing quite well for her age.

Terry and Terry Schaefer
Garden Grove, CA”

Thank you Teresa for sharing this precious story with us, especially at Thanksgiving!

Next, be sure to keep your dogs safe on Thanksgiving! This is from the ASPCA.

Lastly, I just wanted to take this time to thank all of you for all you do for these Bichons throughout the year. From transporting at the last minute, to fostering, to helping with vet bills.

We couldn’t do this lifesaving work without YOU! Please know that you are loved and appreciated! From all of us here at Small Paws® Rescue, to you, Happy Happy Thanksgiving! All My Love, Robin

Humphrey Sisco

Dec 26, 1993~ Aug 30, 2006 Pet Loss Link

When I first saw this beautiful picture of Cheri Sisco’s “Humphrey”, I thought it was truly the epitome of what we do, and why we do it. I wanted to use this black and white picture of Humphrey, taken only days before his death due to congestive heart failure, to let those who may be new to Small Paws, know what we do and why we do it. Without Small Paws, Humphrey would have never known love. He would have died in a kill shelter, sick and alone. Because of Small Paws, and Cheri Sisco, he lived, he loved, and he smiled.

(All recipients of the Small Paws Rescue newsletter receive it voluntarily. Small Paws never gleans e-mail addresses from other e-mail lists. Small Paws never solicits e-mail addresses or shares them with other “lists” or organizations.)
