First, I want to let you know that we had a call in matching donation challenge last night for $500.00 from Pat and Joan Borders at jpborders@aol.com. It’s to be used for the following dogs. Is there anyone who can match the Borders? See below and you’ll understand the need. Oh man.

Gem of the Day: ““A dog is not a thing. A thing is replaceable. A dog is not. A thing is disposable. A dog is not. A thing doesn’t have a heart. A dog’s heart is bigger than any “thing” you can ever own.”

Dear Small Pawsers,

Things are starting to pick up and we ae getting some more dogs into rescue. This newsletter is about only four of them.

That’s the good news. The bad news is that most of them are busted and need to be put back together.

Some of these pictures will be hard to see but please know that these babies have since been put under anesthesia, and shaved. These are mats you can only imagine unless you’ve seen them.

Meet little 9 year old Greyson. He was one solid mat and was found in a field with wires stuck in him holding him down. Folks, he has had terrible things happen to him.

Greyson’s freedom ride from the shelter to our veterinarian. His bill will be at least $3000.00.

Click this video to see his left front leg.

Greyson’s front left leg isn’t working. He drags it. The leg may have been what got him caught up in wires in the field to begin with. There is no telling how long he was stuck there. We are looking at his vetting including amputation of that leg at a cost of $3000.00. He also has a slight, heart murmur and terrible teeth that may require a dog dentist.

From his vet: “Good morning. Melissa put together the estimate for Greyson. If it’s ok, with his slight chest murmur and being a little older I am going to get chest X-rays. So, with that being said, for everything, amputation,  including the dental you are at about 3,000. However, it does not include any extractions and he has heavy dental tartar. Also, as we discussed, we may do the dental later depending on how he does under anesthesia. Plus if his teeth are really bad and needs a lot of extractions that may take a while may need to see the dental specialist but obviously won’t know until he is under.”

Next, meet “Claire.”

Meet 9 year old “Clair.” Thanks to Sara Rhodes, one of our Team Leaders Extraordinaire, we rescued Clair from a shelter near Chicago.

Claire does have age related Nuclear sclerosis, needs a dental and the works. This density in the eye is called lenticular or nuclear sclerosis. Lenticular sclerosis is a product of aging and usually begins to appear in middle-aged to senior dogs. The condition is painless and does not lead to blindness.

Claire is shaved here but when her coat grows out, she will be a great dog for someone! Her vet bill will be around $1400.00.

Next, meet “”Putter”.

Subject: Putter intake 4/19/21

Putter is now at our vet’s office. He is about 8-10 lbs (he looks bigger in the pics ) Doc said he is estimated at 4 years old. Look at the mats on his feet and legs.

Look what was under there! Doc is treating his skin, but as you can see he is much better since he was shaved! His vet bill will be around $1000.00 for a neuter, heartworm test, vaccinations, fecal, a dental, and quarantine.

Click this video to meet Pip!

You may be asking, “What is that?!” Well, Pip is about 10 pounds, and he is 1-2 year old. Watch the video to see why we got him! He’s a tail wagger!

Pip will need everything done at the vet’s office and his vetting will run around $800.00 because he’s so young! Yay!

So if nothing else goes wrong, we need to raise $6200.00 for these four little ones. I’m here and will issue any matching challenges for Greyson, Claire, Putter, and Pip Small Paws.

All My Love, Robin

Humphrey Sisco

Dec 26, 1993~ Aug 30, 2006 Pet Loss Link

When I first saw this beautiful picture of Cheri Sisco’s “Humphrey”, I thought it was truly the epitome of what we do, and why we do it. I wanted to use this black and white picture of Humphrey, taken only days before his death due to congestive heart failure, to let those who may be new to Small Paws, know what we do and why we do it. Without Small Paws, Humphrey would have never known love. He would have died in a kill shelter, sick and alone. Because of Small Paws, and Cheri Sisco, he lived, he loved, and he smiled.
