A quick update on our Little Callie, in Roanoke TX.! Callie’s blood volume had dropped down to 15% and was getting dangerously low. Today it’s up to 28! Normal is from 33-64. They’d like her to be up in the 40-50 range before they remove that eye and spay her. She’s eating chicken and dog food which is a great sign! She needs time to regenerate her red blood cells. They think she’s going to be a normal doggie! Thank you for taking that invisible staircase with me! All My Love, Robin

Gem of the Day: “A dog desires affection more than its dinner. Well—almost.” Charlotte Gray
Dear Small Pawsers,
Well, Callie is still looking better, this afternoon.
So far, so good on her blood volume. She is up and following the techs around when they have chicken. Now she rallied on Wednesday and then went downhill yesterday. We are going to watch her tonight and in the morning to see if she still needs to go to the ER.
This is what Dr. Shepherd said about her bill even with a 30% rescue discount.
“At this time, it is likely that total expenditures for Callie will be in the $3000-$5000 range (even with rescue discounting), and this may be a conservative estimate.”
Then this internal bleeding started. So we have two very generous matching donation challenges.
What is a matching donation challenge?
First, from Mary Hurley, we have this challenge for $1000.00. Thank you, Mary! Is there anyone blessed enough to match Mary?
“Callie definitely needs and deserves all the TLC she can get, poor little thing – she’s suffered enough. Please extend this as a challenge in memory of all the little wounded fluffs who weren’t lucky enough to make their way to SPR…
Mary
Then, next, we have something a little different for us. I see things like this with other charities and I always wonder if it’s real. Well, this time, with us, it’s real.
Louie got a voicemail from one of our volunteers, who wants to remain anonymous. It said, “I want to issue a $5000 matching challenge for Callie.” That would sure go along way for Callie and for the next nine I haven’t even told you about yet. If you can match it, we can keep your information confidential, as well.
So that’s where we are right now. If anything changes with Callie, I will let you know. All My Love, Robin

Please read below about 2 year old Callie, in Roanoke, Texas.
The good news is that she is a little better this morning. She ate and she has more blood volume, which means that she isn’t bleeding internally at the moment. The bad news is that she already needs between $3000-$5000 just to vet her, remove her eye, diagnostics, hospitalization, etc. The other bad news is that she probably needs ER care through the weekend which may run another $2000.00. You all know how veterinary costs have gone up.
Still, she needs constant care through the weekend, so we are going to need to move her to an ER where she can get a blood transfusion if needed. Her primary vet believes she can pull through this.
We have the following matching donation challenges.
What is a matching donation challenge?
The first is from Janet Rawlings , for $500.00. Thank you so very much, Janet. Is there anyone who can match Janet?

This makes me so sad! Robin, Louie, I am making a matching challenge in honor of Cadbury.. my friend Joanie’s bichon who sadly and suddenly lost him mom last week. Joanie Greggains passed unexpectedly in her home in Northern California. Cadbury soothed her heart when she adopted him from Small Paws several years ago. He is being cared for by one of Joanie’s best friends. I will donate $200 in her honor…as well as Cadburys. Thanks For all you do. Love Barbe
And from Dawn Bove, we have this matching challenge for $100.00. Can anyone match Dawn?

Gem of the Day: “Take the first step in faith. You don’t have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step.”
~Dr. Martin Luther King, ~
Dear Small Pawsers,
We have EIGHT new dogs to tell you about in various conditions ranging from a head tilt to broken bones. The usual fare.
But this is about little 2 year old Callie.
Callie is now at the Roanoke Animal Hospital under the care of Dr. Dave Shepherd and he believes we can save her. but we need your help. Seriously.
Something attacked her and blew her left eye globe and it must be removed but that’s not the most urgent problem now.
She’s anemic and losing blood from somewhere inside and they couldn’t find from whence it came until tonight.
Our Board and Rae, our N. Texas Team Leader, has been watching her closely, with Dr. Shepherd, all week. We get excellent care there and an unheard of 30% rescue discount.
Tuesday she was bright and alert and eating! We were all jumping for joy! Then this sent was last night from Dr. Shepherd.
I’m here and will issue all matching challenge donations! But we are in a hurry, my loves. Robin

P.S. Lucy’s Pacemaker procedure has been postponed to June 20 at Medvet in Columbus, Ohio. She got an ear infection and is getting over that before they can put the pacemaker in.
Lucia, “Lucy” upon intake a few months ago.
Five year old “Lucy” today, freshly groomed. I know she looks good on the outside, but inside her heart rate drops suddenly.
She can’t be spayed or have a “not just merely but really most sincerely” needed dental, due to her inability to have anesthesia, until she gets our first ever Pacemaker put in.
Medvet has been doing them for 14 years, but Lucy is our first, thanks to the Florida Bash and YOU!
