Dear Small Pawsers,

Welcome to our newest subscribers! We hope you enjoy hearing about the Bichons and the people who love them!

Wednesday night, we learned of a 2 year old male Bichon mix in a shelter near Dallas.

“Chevy” was scheduled to be euthanized at 11:00 A.M Thursday, YESTERDAY for medical issues above and beyond their capabilities.

He was already IN THE EUTHANASIA ROOM. Oh My God have mercy.

Chevy has an impaction of some sort. Basically, he’s seriously constipated.

Yesterday, one of our long time volunteers, Thomas Goebel, drove to the shelter, and took Chevy to one of our City View vets.

Chevy has a microchip. The shelter tries to reach his owners but to no avail.

The vet called me yesterday afternoon.

His hair is matted close to the skin. His back end is red, inflamed and sore. She said he has a large piece of stool that he needs to pass, but it’s too dry.

They took new x-rays to see if it had moved any since the day before. They will take more x-rays, today.

They put him in Hospitalization with continuous IV’s for rehydration. And, they are feeding him canned dog food.

They said he is matted to the skin and has been on the streets for some time. They said that impactions like this are usually caused by a dog eating plants, because of the their being no food available.

The estimate to pull him through this is for between $1500.00-$2000.00. This will include his 10 days of quarantine.

This was about as close as it gets to one losing their life, if not for Small Paws® Rescue.

Next, we have a 15 month old female, also near Dallas. “Ivanka” came to us because her owner was very ill and could no longer care for her.

(PLEASE do not ask about adopting her yet. We are dealing with a serious Cardiac issue now.)

Ivanka came into rescue with an odd 3rd heart beat. It’s an irregular heartbeat. Our primary care vet found it and we cancelled her appointment to be spayed.

We have an appointment with the Cardiologist at MedVet Grapevine.

In order for them to do an Exam, Echocardiogram, and basic blood work, it will be $1800-2000.

That’s just the estimate for the diagnostics.

So for both Chevy and Ivanka, we need to raise right at $4000.00. (It’s always at the high end of the estimate, it seems.)

Plus, we’ve taken in 3 dogs in the last 2 days.

We have “Barely In Time Chevy” from the shelter, one is coming in from Florida, and one just came from Ohio.

Abby is a 15 month old “Teddy Bear” (1/2 Shih Tzu and 1/2 Bichon). She came to us when her owner went into a memory facility, and is no longer able to care for her.

Their family had her in boarding for 4 weeks.

We were contacted by the adult son, who now has Power of Attorney for his mom.

Abby is very sweet and will be up for adoption soon in Northern Ohio.

So, that’s where we are.

I’m here and will issue all Matching Donation Challenges.

Help is needed.

All My Love, Robin
