BECOME A FOSTER PARENT FOR SMALL PAWS® RESCUE!! WE PAY ALL VET BILLS FOR OUR FOSTER DOGS! VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED IN ALL STATES BUT THEY ARE DESPERATELY NEEDED IN NORTH AND SOUTH TEXAS !

Dear Small Pawsers,

Thank you all so very much for helping little Sadie to get her PDA Heart Murmur repaired, yesterday, at Medvet in Worthington, Ohio!

These are a couple of pictures!

Sadie on the way from Michigan to Ohio, one the way to feeling better!

Sadie getting her echocardiogram before the proceedure.

This is Sadie and her new PDA occlusion device. This fluoroscopy image was taken moments after device deployment, while still attached to the delivery cable that is soon to be detached.

So Sadie is doing wonderfully this morning, and she will be going back home this afternoon!

Thank you to everyone who donated and prayed for Sadie, who will now have a normal life with a normal life span, all thanks to you!!!

And on September 9, we’ll do it all again for little Lucy!

This is little Lucy.

Lastly, some of you have been asking how my own little Oliver is doing!

Wellll, he was 9 months old on August 8, and he is a heart healer DELUXE, I am telling YOU!

Oliver is a Chocolate with white Havanese, who was a puppy mill rescue when I adopted him in February.

What is a Havanese dog?

Bichon Havanese – The Cuban Charmer

“The Bichon Havanese is the perfect little companion dog for those who want a lively, affectionate, and charming friend in a compact size. Originally the preferred pet of Cuban aristocrats, this breed has won many hearts with its combination of elegance and a lively temperament. With its silky soft coat and large, expressive eyes, the Bichon Havanese brings warmth and joy to any family.”

Oliver is a Chocolate Havanese, meaning that he has a chocolate nose, lips, and halos, and green eyes!

He weighs 11.2 pounds and is mostly grown.

He graduated puppy school, and just started back to intermediate training classes.

After the first of the year, Oliver will begin service dog training, just like our beloved Reagan.

Oliver is a delight to have around and he keeps us laughing!

He LOVES watching movies on TV, so I’ve been trying to expose him to the classics.

This is Oliver watching ‘To Kill A Mockinbird’, one of my favorites.

He doesn’t just watch. He reacts at all of the appropriate places. It’s inexplainable. You’d just have to see it to believe it.

Here he is on our back porch. This gives you an idea of how his little body is shaped. He has the same beautiful plume over his back as the Bichon Frise.

He LOVES the camera!

I decided I wanted a small fenced in area for Oliver, just off of our back porch. I heard something making noise early one morning, and found my husband Dale, outside building it!

We love to sit on the porch and watch him chase fireflies, around 10 at night, under the ceiling fans with a cool iced tea.

As you can tell, he is the light of our lives!

After we lost Reagan, on January 5 at almost 16, I was just not doing well. I’d lost other dogs in my lifetime, but something was very different this time.

For five weeks Dale and my closest friends were worried for me. I was worried for me.

As the days went on without Reagan, I literally cried out to the Lord.

I asked Him that if there was a dog who needed me, that I needed that dog, and to please help us to find each other.

I knew I didn’t want another Bichon, because I didn’t want to look down and see a dog that looked so much like Reagan. And we do still have two Bichons. 13 year old Romance and 14 year old Pipper.

I just wanted something different and I can’t even explain it.

After applying for 11 different adult non shedding what-a-poo mixes, all of them were gone before I ever applied, I got a phone call from Jellystone Barks Rescue Rangers in Yorkville, IL.

It was Kim, their Founder and Executive Director. She told me that there was a 13 week old Havanese puppy from a puppy mill, and he was mine if I wanted him. (Come to find out, Kim has been on the Small Paws® Rescue mailing list for many, many years! She knew who I was and she knew who Reagan was! I love how God works!)

Oliver as a baby.

AS SOON AS I SAW THIS PICTURE I KNEW THAT WAS MY DOG I KNEW IT NO QUESTION THANK YOU JESUS I KNEW THAT WAS MY DOG!!!

Havanese are known for their coats lightening as they get older. Oliver is becoming more of a natural blonde each day, just like his Mom. (Ahem…)

My heart has been healed! I will always love Reagan, and he will always be a “dog of a lifetime”.

And now, this little guy has my whole heart.

I’m more active then I’ve been in a long time. We go and go and go!

I thank God that I had Reagan in my life. I thank God for Dale and wonderful friends. I thank God for all of you and this magnificent obsession we call Small Paws® Rescue. And I thank God for Oliver Pressnall.

Somewhere in my youth or childhood, I must have done something good.

And I’m thankful, every minute of every day.

All My Love, Robin
