Dear Small Pawsers,

Our Team Leader to Illinois, Sara Rhodes, was notified about a 2 year old female Bichon who was injured after being hit by a car, in a shelter near Chicago.

She had multiple fractures of her pelvis and was in a great deal of pain.

The vets at the shelter had done all they could for her and they called in Small Paws® Rescue.

We named her “Sadie” Small Paws®. Here she is while she was still at the shelter. Her back legs were splayed.

Long time volunteers, Kathy MacPherson, and her husband Tom, and her sister, Small Pawsers all, rushed to get Sadie picked up and taken to VCA Aurora 24 hour Emergency Hospital.

This is how the organization that you support, comes into play during medical emergencies.

Her eyes tell the story.

This is one of the folks at VCA Aurora, holding our girl.

When we first took her, I didn’t know if she was even going to make it, based on what the shelter Vet had said.

But we had to try.

Miracle of miracles, THREE surgeons there consulted and all agreed.

SHE DOES NOT NEED SURGERY! Her pelvic bones will heal! She is able to get up and walk with a sling and can even urinate! She is going to make it!

Now she begins quarantine and serious convalescing at Plainfield Animal Hospital.

But just to get her to this point, the bill at VCA Aurora was $2,413.26.

“Receipt from VCA Animal Hospitals

Receipt #1034-5201

 Amount paid$2,413.26 Date paid Oct 30, 2025, 6:34:01 PM”

On top of that, her normal vetting will be right at $2000.00 – $2200.00.

So we are looking at around $4600.00 to take care of little Sadie with the biggest brown eyes that just seem to say, “Thank you for saving me!”

This was a completely unexpected bill and we do need help.

There was no time to ask for help first.

I am here and will issue all Matching Challenge Donation Challenges!
