Gem of the Day:
"Look, Daddy. Teacher says, every time
a
bell rings an angel
gets his wings."
~Memorable quotes from "It's a Wonderful
Life" (1946) ~

"Jingle B."
Jingle's Bells are just not working.
He was like a model for Murphy's Law. If
it could go wrong, it did go wrong for this
little guy. Scroll down to see why he was out of options
in a shelter in Florida, before Small Paws
came to his aid. Now, he needs a bladder
stone removed, as well as several rotten
teeth pulled. All of his vetting is estimated
to run between $1000.00-1200.00. He is in pain and we need to help him as
soon as we can.

Thanks for all of
your well wishes
last week,
when SPR appeared
on the Fox News Network
in NYC!
Many thanks to Bill Adam and Randi, who hosted
me during my stay.
And thanks to Deborah Berger and her Bichon
Boris, and to Bonnie Margolis and her Bichons
Rosie and the scene stealing, serial Bichon
waver, Gabriel!
And thanks to Joe Ceniccola, foster Dad of
"Giovanni" and to Joanne Raus,
the Team Leader to the Northeast, and my
right hand during all of this!
Everyone at Fox News was just lovely to us!
We met Judy Laterza,
who is the Executive
Assistant to the
Chairman at FOX News Network.
She really loves
what we do!
Ok! Here are some pictures behind the scenes
as well as the segment that was shown on
Friday morning!

Fox & Friends Co-Host, Steve Doocy, and Your's Truly, in the green room of
Fox News in New York
City. Steve is a
VERY
nice guy who loves
dogs!
Here we are backstage in the green room.
Bonnie Margolis holds Gabriel,
(the now "world famous" Bichon
waver) while Rosie made her self comfortable
in the chair.

Ok, back to the Bichon Business at hand!
Down in Tarpon Springs, Florida, we have
a little guy named Jingles.
He really seemed to be falling apart at the
seams, literally, after a previous surgical
incision had come open at the shelter where
he was a guest of the county.
Maybe his medical issues are the reason why
he ended up in the shelter.
The shelter repaired the incision that came
open, but they really couldn't help him anymore
than they did.
If we hadn't taken him, he would have assumed
room temperature, if you get my drift, as
he is not adoptable until his medical needs
are addressed.
This is what Vicki
Inglee, our Florida Co-Team
Leader, tells us
about Jingle. His bells
aren't ringing too
clear, right now.
He is presently at
the:
Westlake Animal Hospital
39564 Us Highway 19 N
Tarpon Springs, FL
34689
727-938-1575
Dr. Waterman is Jingle's
vet.

"Jingle B" presented for an exam
and quarantine boarding on 12/8/09.
Jingle has had a prescrotal urethrostomy surgery performed at some point in his life, meaning
that an external urethral opening was made
on his prepuce, so that urine will exit through
this hole before it reaches the natural opening.
This is most often done when a male dog has
repeated urethral blockages from bladder
stones. It provides a larger opening at a
wider part of the urethra so that small stones
are able to be voided with the urine rather
than becoming lodged in the urethra.
According to the
animal shelter's
records,
the surgical site
had been traumatized
and
the urethra was protruding,
so a repair was
performed at the
shelter. Jingle has
external
sutures and some
inflammation around
the
surgical site but
it urinating normally
through
the new opening.
A complete blood cell count, chemistry panel,
and urinalysis were performed on Jingle.
The chemistry panel was within normal limits.
He has a moderately elevated white blood
cell count, which could indicate infection
or inflammation in his body. This could be
due to periodontal disease, his recent surgery,
a urinary tract infection, or other unknown
cause. The urinalysis showed significant
amounts of red and white bloods cells, indicating
inflammation in his bladder. However, no
bacteria were seen in the urine to indicate
infection.

Editor's Note: This is what bladder stones
look like. These came out of a Bichon, who
is doing well today. Trying to get one of
these to pass is sort of like trying to get
a peanut to go through the eye of a needle.
A peanut with spurs.
(OK men, you can
do this, don't leave
us
now.)
An abdominal x-ray was taken and a single
mineralized bladder stone was visualized.
This stone appears to be too large to be
passed through the urethra, so will need
to be removed surgically.
Based on his physical
examination and lab
work, Jingle needs
a dental cleaning
and
a cystotomy (bladder
stone removal). An
approximate
estimate for these
two procedures is
$1000-$1200.
Jingle needs your
help. He hurts and
doesn't
understand why all
of this has happened
to
him, and then, he
found himself homeless
to boot.
We're coming into the time of year when lots
of people will be traveling to visit family
and friends for the Christmas Holidays.
Of course, as you
have witnessed over the
past 11 years, this
is when medical emergencies
happen.
Jingle needs your help. If you can help him,
this is how to do that,
I'm here and willing
to issue matching
donation
challenges for this
precious little boy,
who still smiles
despite everything
that
has come his way.
Bless his little
heart,
and bless your's
for helping him.
All My
Love, Robin

Humphrey Sisco
Dec 26, 1993~ Aug 30, 2006
When I first saw this beautiful picture of
Cheri Sisco's "Humphrey",
I thought it was
truly the epitome
of what we do, and
why
we do it. I wanted
to use this black
and
white picture of
Humphrey, taken only
days
before his death
due to congestive
heart
failure, to let those
who may be new to
Small
Paws, know what we
do and why we do
it. Without
Small Paws, Humphrey
would have never
known
love. He would have
died in a kill shelter,
sick and alone. Because
of Small Paws, and
Cheri Sisco, he lived,
he loved, and he
smiled.
