Dear Small Pawsers,

There is a group of women Police Officers, who are also rescuers, who have worked with Small Paws® several times before.

We were notified of a Bichon they saw, who was out loose, obviously injured, who could not be caught.

When I asked these Officers who rescued this Bichon, she said, “My friend Michelle did. As soon as I saw the dog I said he is a Small Paws kind of dog so I reached out to Sara :)”

Sara Rhodes, our Team Leader to Illinois, first got the call about a little Bichon, who had been running the streets of Chicago.

When it was determined that he wouldn’t come to anyone, the decision was made to trap him in a humane trap, in order to save his life.

Bingo! They got him!

These are the first pics they took of him. Bichon alert! Yes, he’s a Small Paws® kind of dog!

I believe that he was attacked by a dog on his neck and back.

I believe this poor boy was attacked by another dog, while he was on the run. He has wounds to his neck and back. He is matted to his very core.

I named him our little “Waffles”. He is estimated at around 2 years old.

He now safe and sound with out Chicago area vet, Dr. Paul Blasso.

Here he is kissing long time volunteer, Davis Rann, who picked him up from the shelter and delivered him to our vet’s office.

I think he’s saying “Thank You.”

Now that we have him, we need to take care of his vetting.

For everything that we do for them medically, plus dealing his wounds, his vetting will run around $2000.00.

We need your help to care for Waffles.

P.S. On a persona note, thank you all for the kind words, thoughts, and prayers during my recent left knee replacement.

I never even dreamed that I would get through this so easily!

I had a great surgeon, Dr. Paul Jacob in Oklahoma City. (Yes, he has FOUR dogs. And yes, of COURSE I asked him before I chose him!)

He does the new Robotic Knee Replacement. He doesn’t cut the muscles or tendons so the recovery is so much easier!

I was walking without a walker or cane on day 8.

My pain has been under a 4-5 on a pain scale of 1-10, without the use of strong pain meds.

The ONLY thing I regret it not doing this sooner!

I’m going though at home physical therapy. They come three times a week for a while. Then I’ll go to out patient PT.

Thank you all, again! I’m doing so well at almost three weeks post-op!
