Wednesday, October 15, 2025,

Dear Small Pawsers,

Well, this has NEVER happened before.

Not in 27 years and over 18,000 rescues.

I got a call yesterday from Westlake Animal Hospital, yesterday afternoon.

Remember last Friday, we got little Belle out of the Austin, Tx. Shelter.

She was a mess with mats down to her skin.

As soon as they could, the groomers at the vet’s office, shaved her.

This is Belle after they shaved her. She has a cataract in her left eye, as you can probably see.

Hmm…I don’t even know how to tell you this except to maybe show this article to you.

This is what they found when they got Belle on the operating table to be spayed.

“Yes, a dog can have two vulvas, although it is a very rare congenital abnormality. This is a type of anatomical malformation, sometimes occurring alongside other duplicated structures like the urinary bladder, urethra, and vaginal canal.

  • Cause: This condition is a congenital abnormality, meaning it is present from birth and can be genetic in nature.”

Soooo, the vet had to do another special surgery to connect the two and make it be one.

So her vet bill yesterday was $2,436.90.

And we had another little one named Beau, who also came in from the Austin, Tx. Shelter last Friday. He is estimated at only 8 months old.

This was the shelter picture. We named him “Beau”.

So we never know what is under a coat like this. All I knew is that we couldn’t leave him there.

Austin Volunteer, Jaquie Barton, went to pick him up at the shelter.

They shaved him and he turned into a white Schnauzer mix!! Poof!!

Man, monkey, or mouse, he is ours now and Jaquie is fostering him for us.

We got his vet bill yesterday and it was for $1,035.88 for neutering, a few days of Boarding, HW test and a Flu shot. The shelter gave him his other vaccines.

So all in all the bill yesterday from Westlake Animal Hospital for both Belle and Beau was (Gulp) $3,472.78

Then, in the Dallas area, we got word of a Bichon owner who had died suddenly. His adult daughter reached out to us on Sunday.

The funeral was Monday and Tuesday morning we picked up little “Joy”. She is five years old and is not spayed.

She is on the schedule for spaying and her other vetting, today. Her bill will be around $2,000.00.

So, we need to raise roughly $5,500.00 for Belle, Beau, and Joy. All three of these came in just recently.

And you remember little Dickens who came from a shelter near Chicago. Dr. Blasso called yesterday and he has pneumonia. (Dickens, not Dr. Blasso.) So he is being treated there. It it doesn’t get better, we are looking at moving him to an Emergency Hospital. Get well, little Dickens! We are praying for you!

So after a weekend of College Football, last weekend, we have this matching Challenge from Sheri Pizitz at sheri@sheripizitz.com,in Dallas Texas! Thank you Sheri! This challenge is for little Belle.
