Gem Of The Day: “And when October goes
The snow begins to fly
Above the smokey roofs
I watch the planes go by.”

Songwriters: Johnny Mercer, Barry Manilow

Good Morning on this last morning of October, 2018.

We have just rescued three new female Bichons. Vetting costs are going to run around $1000.00-$1200.00 for each of them, if they don’t have any other serious medical issues and if they don’t need to see a specialist. That includes a 30% rescue discount. This includes 10 days of quarantine to protect our foster home’s personal dogs from contagious shelter diseases, spay or neuter. dentals if needed and 99% of the time they are needed, extractions, heartworm tests, fecal tests, removal of lumps and bumps and we do send those to pathology, vaccinations, deworming, flea and tick preventative, etc.

Many times these homeless Bichons come in from shelters with upper respiratory infections, ear infections, eye infections, etc.

We do everything we can to get them well and adoptable.

Now there are three more. We can’t approve any more until we raise funds for these three.

Meet three year old “Ariel” who came from a shelter in Chicago. She looks great, right?

Look again. Something has happened to her shoulder.

And another three year old female that the shelter named “Amelia”. She looks good too, right?

You see, they named her Amelia because they wanted her to have a pretty name because she came in looking like this. At three years old, she needs a dental. It looks as if she was born and no one ever did another thing for her. I don’t know how she even survived.

Then we got a young female in from a South Texas Shelter. Meet “Tosca”. She needs the works. (That’s just what we all need. More cute UNSPAYED females out there in the world. NOT.)
Tosca won’t be having any babies after her spay.

So we need to raise about $3,200.00 for these newest little girls.

They don’t know why they were in a shelter, with a gash in a shoulder, or mats so bad that her white fur had turned dark brown.

All they know is that they are in need of vet care and they are depending on us to do it.

I’m here and will issue any matching donation challenges that come in. As October goes.

All My Love, Robin

Humphrey Sisco
Dec 26, 1993~ Aug 30, 2006

When I first saw this beautiful picture of Cheri Sisco’s “Humphrey”, I thought it was truly the epitome of what we do, and why we do it. I wanted to use this black and white picture of Humphrey, taken only days before his death due to congestive heart failure, to let those who may be new to Small Paws, know what we do and why we do it. Without Small Paws, Humphrey would have never known love. He would have died in a kill shelter, sick and alone. Because of Small Paws, and Cheri Sisco, he lived, he loved, and he smiled.
