Two Matching Challenges for Bungee’s Broken Leg/ Airline Ticket Needed for Louie Bertolino from Boston to Tulsa for Okie Bash

Tuesday Afternoon, September 24, 2019

Funds have been slow coming in for little Bungee. I think it’s because he isn;t bleeding or matted. But his leg still has an old break and from his elbow down it flops back and forth.

We have the following matching donation challenges for Bungee’s surgery. First from Dawn Bove at d.bove@fcpmllc.com we have this generous challenge for $250.00 for Bungee. Thank you Dawn. I hope someone is able to match you soon.

Good Morning; Unimaginable that injury was never taken care of. So now we have him. So let’s all step up and get him running and playing.
I will make a challenge for $250.00. Hope someone will match me soon.
As always sent with love, Dawn

And from Judy De Angeles, we have this matching challenge for $100.00 for Bungee,            Is there someone who can match Judy?

He is so cute.  I will issue a matching challenge of $100.00 to help Bungee.

Next we need to be able to get Louie Bertolino, the one who takes our credit card donations, from Boston to Tulsa, Oklahoma in the morning on Thursday, October 17, returning in the afternoon on Sunday, October 20, 2019. we really can’t do this without him. Is there anyone who can help so he doesn’t have to hitch hike.

If so, please let me know at robin@smallpawsrescue.org.

That’s all the news that is the news. All My Love, Robin

Dear Small Pawsers,

Meet Bungee. He’s about 16 months old. Karla Carter, our South Texas Team Leader, learned he was in the shelter and sent a Small Paws Volunteer to save him.

He looks perfectly normal doesn’t he?

See where the black arrow is pointing? We would call it our elbow. It’s broken and the surgeon says it is “chronically broken”.

This means it’s been this way so long that is has grown this way and can not be surgically repaired.

Now the interesting this is that he can walk on it for a few steps, and then the broken leg “flip-flops”from side to side and he falls. The surgeon says that the only humane thing we can do is amputate his front leg.

There are several reasons for this.

As a tripod, a dog with three legs, Bungee could run, play, and be a dog. It just doesn’t bother them like it would us. They take off running with that bad leg no longer keeps them down.

In later years, he would have very painful arthritis from that break that was never repaired. Without the ability to walk, and holding the leg up, back issues can develop. This would be very painful and could need back surgery.

Also, it would be very difficult to place him and to fly him with a broken leg that flips and flops.

With a rescue discount, the bill is going to be around $2000.00 just for the amputation.

This doesn’t include his regular vetting. So we need to raise around $2800.00 for little Bungee.

I named him “Bungee” as soon as I learned we would have to amputate. I want him to be able to play and play hard!

I’m here an I will issue all matching challenges for Bungee’s surgery.

He can’t go through life like this. It would be a sin. Like killing a mockingbird. When we can help him to have a full and happy life. All My Love, Robin

Humphrey Sisco
Dec 26, 1993~ Aug 30, 2006

When I first saw this beautiful picture of Cheri Sisco’s “Humphrey”, I thought it was truly the epitome of what we do, and why we do it. I wanted to use this black and white picture of Humphrey, taken only days before his death due to congestive heart failure, to let those who may be new to Small Paws, know what we do and why we do it. Without Small Paws, Humphrey would have never known love. He would have died in a kill shelter, sick and alone. Because of Small Paws, and Cheri Sisco, he lived, he loved, and he smiled.
