I Don’t Understand This. Meet Little “Treasure” and “Journey”. A Story of Love & Survival.

Early Wednesday Morning, Sept.11, 2019

Gem Of The Day: “The man or boy who will be cruel to the tiniest of God’s creatures, cannot be trusted to be tender even to his sister or his child; but he whose large brave heart cares for the feeblest, is always ready to help and comfort any who may need his aid and sympathy.

~JULIA A. MATHEWS~

Dear Small Pawsers,

I usually can handle these things. I’ve been doing this over for 21 years and I’ve seen my share of neglect and abuse. So have you because I’ve shown you.

It took me a couple of days to be even be able to write to you about this case.

This is about only two of our most recent rescues.

There are seven other new ones. But these two. Oh my Lord Jesus. But these two.

All I can do is come and tell you and show you. My heart is just breaking. Please take a breath before you meet “Treasure” and “Journey”.

I and I alone made the decision to pull them from the Chicago CACC. I hope you agree it was the right thing to do.

Breathe.

Meet 8-9 year old “Treasure” and 3 year old “Journey”, found as strays near Chicago. How could this happen?

“Treasure and “Journey” are VERY bonded. They snuggle together amidst their mats. They share their food. Journey lets Treasure eat first. I’m certain that Treasure, the older one, has managed to keep Journey, the younger one alive on the streets. I’m awestruck with how much they love each other.

We have them boarding together in a run with soft dog beds during their shelter quarantine.

Treasure is estimated at 8-9 years old. He has bilateral ear infections. (Both Sides). Most of his teeth are gone and he has an oral nasal fistula.

Treatment: Surgical removal of the tooth, and closure of the passageway is the treatment of choice. A skin flap will be placed in both the mouth and in the nasal cavity during closure.

We have a Board Certified Dentist in Wisconsin who give us a good discount. Midwest Veterinary Dental Services | Small Animal & Equine

We usually have a volunteer drive over from Chicago, stay the might, then drive back. We got an estimate for Treasure’s oral fistula to be repaired and it is for between $1,850.00-$2,500.00. Then, on top of this, due to the atrocious condition they arrived in, their vetting is going to run around $1,200.00 each.

Journey’s tail. And he still wags it at humans.

So all together, we need to raise around $5000.00 for them. Then there are the expense of a Hotel and meals for the volunteer. Some of you may be wondering if Treasure is even possibly a Bichon or a Bichon Mix.

I had to make a call. Do we take a chance that under all of that muck there was a raccoon, or do I trust my gut and believe he was a Bichon or a Bichon mix?

What do you think? Look at those legs.

I’m hoping there are some of you can help us to get them healthy, so they can be adopted together.

They are safe with us now. We just have to pay their bills. As God as my witness, they will never be hurt or neglected again.

I’m here and will issue all matching donation challenges. All My Love, Robin

Humphrey Sisco
Dec 26, 1993~ Aug 30, 2006

When I first saw this beautiful picture of Cheri Sisco’s “Humphrey”, I thought it was truly the epitome of what we do, and why we do it. I wanted to use this black and white picture of Humphrey, taken only days before his death due to congestive heart failure, to let those who may be new to Small Paws, know what we do and why we do it. Without Small Paws, Humphrey would have never known love. He would have died in a kill shelter, sick and alone. Because of Small Paws, and Cheri Sisco, he lived, he loved, and he smiled.

(All recipients of the Small Paws Rescue newsletter receive it voluntarily. Small Paws never gleans e-mail addresses from other e-mail lists. Small Paws never solicits e-mail addresses or shares them with other “lists” or organizations.)
