Dear Small Pawsers,

While we were busy with the recent Okie Bash, (I’ll tell you about it later, but it may have been the best Bash ever!) 15 Bichon-Poodle mixes were confiscated from a hoarder in the Chicago area, and taken to the CACC.

We took eight of them and the rest went to two other rescue groups.

Here is more from Sara Rhodes, Team Leader to Il.

Subject: Urgent at CACC

Last Tuesday I got an URGENT text from CACC about 15 “bichonly” dogs that were rescued from a hoarding situation.

The Chicago Police Department were doing a wellness check and found a women living in unhealthy conditions, along with 15 dogs. The dogs were all confiscated and the owner signed them over to CACC.  Small Paws, along with two other rescues, pulled these dogs.

They were all infested with fleas, matted, and covered with fecal matter.

SPR Volunteers, Tom and Kathy Macpherson, rented a van to go to CACC and get our pups!

We took 8 of them. We got two male puppies and 6 adults. The one male puppy had bilateral ear infections. There is one female that is pregnant, and she also has several small mammary masses, that will need to be removed post delivery. We are unsure of how far along she is at this time. There are two other females (Sabrina and Scarlet) that may be pregnant. We have local maternity foster homes for all of them.) The forth female (Sylvie) is estimated at 6-7 years old and has had multiple litters. Dr. Blasso said she has a purulent discharge ,possibly Pyometra and will be getting spayed. She is on antibiotics.

There are two adult males (Shilo 1-2 years and Sampson 6-7 years, that will also need complete vetting.

Everyone will need 10 days of quarantine, vetting, dentals and all are on antibiotics.

Robin, if you could please send an URGENT email to help raise funds.

Tom, Kathy and the staff at PVC said they are all extremely sweet!

God bless you and Small Paws for taking them!

So this is everyone we took.

“Seymore” is 8 weeks old and is at our vet’s office. He came in with the group of 8. He has ear infections and is on antibiotics. Seymore has been adopted by a griever and will go to his new home in a few days.

Syndey is at our vet’s office. He has a non reducible hernia which will require surgery.

Sylvie has a purulent discharge. She is the one who may have a Pyometra. She will need full vetting and possibly, surgery.

Sadie is pregnant. She is 4-5 years old. She has two small mammary masses that will be removed when she is spayed. We are praying they are cysts and are benign. Kathy and Tom Macpherson, one of our great maternity foster homes, are going to foster. They went to pick everyone up Thursday night. They totally went above and beyond for SPR!

Sabrina is estimated at 4 years. She is another one who may be pregnant.

Scarlet estimated at 1-2 years old . She is also possibly pregnant.

Shilo estimated at 1 year. Shilo is a male, not neutered ( none of the are).

Sampson estimated at 6-7 years. He also has a non reducible hernia that will need to be repaired. He has a small cataract in one eye.

All pups are extremely sweet per Tom, Kathy and the staff at PVC. So two of the eight are puppies and have been placed with grievers already on on the waiting list. The remaining six are going to need the works at about $800.00-$1000.00 each, if nothing else is wrong.

We haven’t raised funds for several newbies who have come in, in a couple of weeks. Help is needed for the Chicago Eight.

I am here and will issue all matching donation challenges.

“Eight is enough.. to fill your heart with love.”

All My Love, Robin

Humphrey Sisco
Dec 26, 1993~ Aug 30, 2006

When I first saw this beautiful picture of Cheri Sisco’s “Humphrey”, I thought it was truly the epitome of what we do, and why we do it. I wanted to use this black and white picture of Humphrey, taken only days before his death due to congestive heart failure, to let those who may be new to Small Paws, know what we do and why we do it. Without Small Paws, Humphrey would have never known love. He would have died in a kill shelter, sick and alone. Because of Small Paws, and Cheri Sisco, he lived, he loved, and he smiled.
