Things have been slow and we are praying that you can help her.

We have one matching donation challenge from Dawn Bove at d.bove@fcpmllc.com .

Hello Small Pawsers!

We hope you are all doing well!

One of our Bichons, 7 year old “Poppy”, came into rescue with severe damage to her right eye.

We tried to save it as we thought it may still have vision.

But when we took her to the eye specialist, Veterinary Vision, Dr. Jacqueline Vernot, DVM, 820 Ogden Ave ., Lisle, IL 60532, we learned that she doesn’t have any vision in that eye and that it is hurting her.

It needs to come out. She will feel so much happier.

We are going to use our regular vet, Dr. Paul Blasso, in Plainfield Il., to remove that dead eye. The estimate is for between $1000-1400.00. Eye enucleation is something that regular vets do often.

Due to Covid, I’ve tried not to ask for help with funds, as I know that some of you are unable to give right now. And we completely understand that.

But for those of you who are able to help, we have vet bills coming each week. And now we have this surgery needing to be done.

I hope some of you are able to help Poppy. I’m here (and where else would I be?!) and will issue all matching challenge donations for this precious girl!

We also have some precious adoptable dogs and we would love to tell you about them!

We have little 7 year old Cherri. Small Paws removed seven bladder stones removed and several bad teeth.

Cherri is a 7 year old female Bichon mix. She walks well on leash and she is crate trained. She gets along with her foster brother and sister and likes her fenced in back yard. She has also learned to use a doggie door.

Cherri had bladder stones and had to have several teeth extracted. So, she is on a special diet and doing very well. She has gained 1 pound in a matter of weeks. She would do best in a home where someone was there most of time, with fenced yard and another dog to play with. Cherri is the perfect lap dog!
She loves to be held and enjoys lots of attention.

Cherri is located in Indiana. Her new home needs to be within driving distance.

This is an application to adopt Cherri!

Next, we have Kona! Kona is estimated to be born in 2010 and weighs about 20 pounds. Kona had a torn ACL and needed at least six weeks of cage rest but he is getting close to being able to be adopted!

Children in the home need to be at least 10 years old. He needs another dog in the home or someone home most of the time. Kona is located in IL.

This is an application to adopt Kona!

Next, we have a special needs little girl. Mabrey is a puppy mill survivor,  around 3 years old. She suffered extensive early trauma due to time spent in a puppy mill. She is a gentle soul and can be quite the shadow, choosing to watch rather than participate in family activities. She loves playing outside and hanging with her foster brother and sister dogs. Her fears disappear when running the yard, chasing squirrels, or running the fence line with the neighbor dogs.

She will need a securely fenced yard and another small dog in the home chosen as her forever home. There are no exceptions to this. She walks quite well on a leash. She is hesitant with people but attaches to other dogs quickly. She shows potential to attach to people but will require patience.

She is not dominate, destructive or aggressive but may bark and whine when unsure of her surroundings.

She is currently living with four other dogs. It is unknown how she reacts to cats as there are no cats at the foster home. We are looking for a home without cats.

Some of her favorite things are sitting on the couch monitoring the activity around her and being outside.

She has just started carrying a toy around. She is crate trained and house trained in her foster home.

She is fully vetted including having had a recent dental. Mabrey is very routine oriented and needs adjustment time when a change occurs. It will take her some time to adjust to your home and schedule.

Once she warms up, she can be sweet and playful. She will need a patient owner who will be willing to work with her and help her build confidence. This may take some time.

Mabrey MUST have another dog and a securely fenced yard. When frightened she runs.

Is your heart big enough for this precious little puppy mill girl? She will need all of the love and patience you can give.

Children in the home need to be at least 10 years old. She needs another dog in the home and someone home most of the time.

Mabrey is located in MI.

This is an application to adopt Maybrey!

While there seems to be a small dog shortage in the shelters, nationwide, we are looking day and night for placeable Bichons, Bichon Mixes, or anyone who looks like they may have once met a Bichon, who may have just come into a shelter.

Owner surrenders have slowed down as well as people are choosing to keep their dogs with them while they are working from home, which is a good thing.

But, there will be a day when we are expecting a flood of Bichons to be at our door, and we will be there for them!

Next, we have a new Team Leader for South Texas!

Karla Carter is retiring.

Karla has found her dream job and she absolutely loves it!

The only problem is that she is now working 12 to 14 hours a day and simply does not have the time to continue to be our South Texas Team Leader any longer.

But as she says, she is not going anywhere and she will help us all to make a smooth transition!

We have a wonderful Small Pawser who is very excited to be your new Team Leader, and many of you already know her!

It’s Jody Ferraro!

If you have ever participated in any of our Online Auctions, then you know Jody Ferraro, who is our online auction Webmistress!

Jody is also a Co-Team Leader of several states in the Northeast, so she already has experience!

Many of our Team Leaders do not live in the areas in which they lead their teams.

What is needed is a Cell phone, and personal relationships in order to make the rescue wheels turn!

Jody lives in Connecticut but she is studying maps and learning the ups and downs and ins and outs of South Texas!

She looks forward to touching base with each of our team, there, and she is excited to become a Small Paws® Rescue Team Leader!

Jody presently works for the Police Department in Bethel, Ct.

She has seen many emergencies and knows how to handle them when they are arise with these precious Bichons!

Karla will still be here to give us advice about her experiences with South Texas.

She is very gracious to help during this transition, and we thank her more than she can know!

While we will all miss Karla’s determination and perseverance, we do understand that right now her new job takes precedence, so she can help take care of her family, and I know that we all understand that.

We welcome Jody Ferraro to our family of Small Paws Rescue Team Leaders!

This is her contact information.

Thank you, Karla, for saving so many lives over the years. We wish you the very best in your new and exciting journey!

So Poppy needs eye surgery. Several of our hospice dogs need routine dentals, grooming, ect. All of the things that you do for each of your own Bichons, we do for our either unplaceable or hospice Bichons.

If you can help them, please do. We love you and we need you! All My Love, Robin

Humphrey Sisco

Dec 26, 1993~ Aug 30, 2006 Pet Loss Link

When I first saw this beautiful picture of Cheri Sisco’s “Humphrey”, I thought it was truly the epitome of what we do, and why we do it. I wanted to use this black and white picture of Humphrey, taken only days before his death due to congestive heart failure, to let those who may be new to Small Paws, know what we do and why we do it. Without Small Paws, Humphrey would have never known love. He would have died in a kill shelter, sick and alone. Because of Small Paws, and Cheri Sisco, he lived, he loved, and he smiled.
