Three Matching Challenges for The Chicago Five. We Have Enough for One and a Half So Far

Thursday, October 3, 2019

Gem Of The Day: She got down on her knees and made little kissy sounds at me. I shoved my shoulder and side of my head up against the bars to comfort her. Gentle fingertips caressed my neck; she was desperate for companionship. A tear fell down her cheek and I raised my paw to assure her that all would be well.

Gem Of The Day: As she read my kennel card I hoped that she wouldn’t feel sad about my past. I only have the future to look forward to and want to make a difference in someone’s life.

Dear Small Pawsers,

First off all, Bungee had to have his leg amputated yesterday due to a previous fracture, and it was a complete success. The surgeon said it could not have gone any better. He was also neutered (Bungee, not the surgeon) and had a dental at the same time. They are covering his pain. Thank you all for helping Bungee!

Next, Sara Rhodes, one of our Team Leaders and Team Leader to the state of  Il., has written to you. See below. It’s Raining Bichons in Chicago again.

Remember that the CACC, Chicago Animal Care and Control, houses up to 1200 animals daily. They cover the city Chicago and all surrounding areas,

Since they are operated by the city, they can not turn any animal away. Sadly, they do have to euthanize for space.

So many of them there are white fluffies. That’s why so many come from there to us.

Thank God for Sara, who is the bridge to safety between the over crowded and under staffed CACC and Small Paws.

Hi everyone ,

It has been a busy week in Chicago! We have taken in four and Barbara Purlington and Nanci Saucier just got back from the CACC to pick up another one! That’s FIVE. Thanks Robin for giving the okay last night on short notice!!
This is the pup they picked up.
Meet “Beauregard”. He is so matted that he cannot see. The Matt’s are covering his eyes ( yes he is a bichon boy). He actually could leave early on an early medical release because of his condition. All these pups will need quarantine, and complete vetting.

I am hoping we can all come together as an SPR team and raise the funds needed!!

We named this one “Sailor”! He is matted and impacted with feces. Was he once loved?
This is Casper and it was not his first time at CACC as a stray. He is ours now! He is 7 Years old.

Meet little Sundae. She is a 1-2 years old and it was not her first time at CACC. The Chicago Police Department saved her from being hit by a car. The owners made her live outside because they did not want fleas. They surrendered her to CACC because they “don’t want her anymore”. We think she s darling!
This is Gabriel. He is 5 years old and his owners did not want him, so they never came for him at CACC. He has been a stray there before, also!

I have to say Thank You because we always manage to help these poor helpless pups that have been abused, neglected, and unloved. They are able to start their new life being loved and cared for !
It takes a TEAM of all of us at SPR!! Sara

Prayer Requests (Always remember that God loves you more than anyone ever has and more than anyone ever will.)

Hi Robin. This is Mary Smith. I'm asking for a favor for my
dear friend Chris Killough. Her father Delmer Belue caught
legionaries disease at the Western Carolina state fair.
He is not doing well. He is the only one who has been diagnosed
with the infection in both his lungs and kidneys.
Please ask our mighty prayer warriors for their help.
Thank you Robin.

Dear Robin,

Prayers would be appreciated for our baby

Bella, a little Maltese that we actually got from Small Paws Rescue. I wanted to let you know that sweet Bella will have surgery on Friday of this week. We found out in May/June that our baby has some knee troubles. The right knee is popping in and out of place frequently.

The left knee has more serious issues. It has a birth defect. The knee cap is turned sideways (literally) at a 90 degree angle
and is stuck in that position.
The surgeon believes there is a 90 percent chance he can fix the left knee. He only fixes one knee at a time.
I am sure we will have the other knee fixed at a later date. She also has a few minor problems with one hip.
That being said, she has brought so much joy and happiness to all the people in our house and we love her to pieces. She is the princess of this house! She has such a sweet spirit-especially in light of the discomfort she must feel most of the time.
I know that God sent this little angel to us and we will do our best
to care for her.
Marti Todd was her foster mom and has been amazing in every way!! We love Marti!!
Thank you,
Susie

Humphrey Sisco
Dec 26, 1993~ Aug 30, 2006

When I first saw this beautiful picture of Cheri Sisco’s “Humphrey”, I thought it was truly the epitome of what we do, and why we do it. I wanted to use this black and white picture of Humphrey, taken only days before his death due to congestive heart failure, to let those who may be new to Small Paws, know what we do and why we do it. Without Small Paws, Humphrey would have never known love. He would have died in a kill shelter, sick and alone. Because of Small Paws, and Cheri Sisco, he lived, he loved, and he smiled.

(All recipients of the Small Paws Rescue newsletter receive it voluntarily. Small Paws never gleans e-mail addresses from other e-mail lists. Small Paws never solicits e-mail addresses or shares them with other “lists” or organizations.)
