Gem of the Day: No time for a gem today.

We've been bombarded in Chicago with SEVEN
Bichons. all at once, all from different
places, all at one of the Chicago shelters.
One had maggots, one has bite marks and broken
ribs and is still wagging his tail. One has
a huge mass hanging from his neck. He is
on his way to be be euthanized if we don't
take him.
This is a medical emergency. Sara Pace is
there now, not knowing what to do as we are
just coming out of August which hit us hard
financially.
Pictures are below. Their vetting will run
$800-1100 EACH just for normal vetting, spay/neuter/heartworm
test, vaccinations, teeth cleaning and for
the quarantine of 21 days, required by the
shelter. The canine flu is gone now, but
they require the extended quarantine to make
sure it, or any other upper respiratory illnesses
don't come back. We signed a contract agreeing
to this with the shelter.
Some of these have
skin conditions, broken
bones, and one horrible
mass.
This is urgent. she is waiting there a while
to see if money is coming in and how many
we can take.

I don't have much information other than
they are in danger of assuming room temperature
without us. Sara Pace is there at the CACC
right now. This is a shelter in Chicago which
houses over 800 animals a day. There is no
space. Time is of the essence.

This precious young
male, maybe one year
old, had bite wounds
and has two broken ribs.
Something got him.
They did clean him up
and clean his wounds.
He was moved to "medical"
so we could take
him now. He is still wagging
his tail.

This one has a huge mass hanging off of him

I don't even know what to tell you about
this one other than she was headed toward
the "back room" if you get my drift.
Mange?

This one was a stray from CACC, came in matted
with maggots, so the CACC shaved him to get
the maggots out for the protection of the
other animals there. He was on the list to
be euthanized.

Another young male.

Another one who's time is up.
This one looks like a pup. I dont know if
it's a male or female.
The shelter there is still requiring 21 days
of quarantine because the canine flu has
now turned into another strain of kennel
cough. Not deadly at all but contagious for
the first 21 days IF they have it.
It is also more expensive
for us to treat
them if they break
with it.
We are going to need around $8000.00 in order
to take them all.
I will issue matching
challenges as long
as I know funds are
coming in.
All My Love, Robin

>When these folks
applied to adopt,

we asked how their

this
on an average of
once a week.

Paws Rescue
We had him for the
last five years,
He is
very obedient normally
when we say "stay"
he will stop wherever
he is, so some times
we are used to play
with him in the yard
for he loves to run
around the yard in
circles,
during that time
we did not put him
on the
leash, this particular
day he was not on
leash and did not
yield to the command
when
he saw some dog across
the road. It took
off so suddenly the
on coming driver
did
not have time to
stop the car. That
is how
it happened.>

Humphrey Sisco
Dec 26, 1993~ Aug
30, 2006
When I first saw
this beautiful picture
of
Cheri Sisco's "Humphrey", I thought
it was truly the epitome of what we do,
and
why we do it. I wanted to use this black
and white picture of Humphrey, taken only
days before his death due to congestive
heart
failure, to let those who may be new to
Small
Paws, know what we do and why we do it.
Without
Small Paws, Humphrey would have never known
love. He would have died in a kill shelter,
sick and alone. Because of Small Paws, and
Cheri Sisco, he lived, he loved, and he
smiled.
