Dear Small Pawsers,

Small Paws Rescue Online Newsletter, especially to those of you who may have recently seen us on December 11, 2012, on Fox and Friends in New York City , or on Animal Planet on "Dogs 101.", or you may have read about us in Chicken Soup for the Soul: Find Your Happiness, 101 Stories about Finding Your Purpose, Passion and Joy . You also may have seen us on "Inside Edition" with Deborah Norville!

If you missed our previous newsletter, here it is.

Since I came out of the Small Paws Midwest Bichon Bash, held in Valparasio Indiana on Saturday, we have had owner surrender requests for 14 Bichons from all over the country.

I started reading them in the parking lot of the Bash.

It was as if the flood gates opened.

One is for a bonded pair and the rest are are single surrender forms.

Then, on top of that, Sara Pace got a call TODAY that there are at least EIGHT Bichons in trouble at one of the Chicago shelters.

They need to be rescued by 10:00 TOMORROW MORNING, Tuesday.

It will cost around $5000.00 to vet and quarantine these eight Bichons IF there is nothing abnormally wrong.

Thanks to 113 attendees, organizers Sara and Scott Pace, and Rae and Don Steebs, we raised $6020.00 at the Bash on Saturday. (That's before expenses for the caterer, building rental, table and chairs rental, etc.)

$1100.00 of those funds were raised specifically for surgery for a little Bichon named Bean, who was an owner surrender in the Chicago area.

He has a manly problem.

Things are coming out and staying out that shouldn't, and there isn't enough skin to cover what is out, when it shouldn't be out , if you get my drift.

A Board Certified Surgeon is going to need to amputate part of his little boy parts and try to pull the skin up. It will involve his urethra and his ability to go to the bathroom, so we do need to use a surgeon. The cost will be $1100.00.

We just paid a bill to Naperville Vet Clinic near Chicago for $5,464.40.

We are barely keeping up with these Chicago Bichons and now there are eight more.

If we leave them there, they will be killed dead and assume room temperature.

I hate coming to ask you again.

I'd just about rather have a root canal than come and ask you again for money.

I just don't know what to do here and I'm feeling overwhelmed tonight.

A Bichon was abandoned in a house after the people moved, here in Tulsa.

We have her here in Tulsa.

And owner surrenders are coming in from GA., MA., TX., OR., WA., and the list goes on.

If I sound stressed, I am. We are drowning here.

Not only do we need funds to save these next eight, (We've already paid nearly $18,000 in vet bills in the first nine days of June) Sara says we also need foster homes for these eight as hers are all completely full.

We also need foster homes we can fly some of these owner surrenders to, from some of our other states.

We need help. We need YOU.

How to Become a Much Needed Small Paws® Rescue Foster Parent

These are the pictures of a few of the Chicago Bichons who need us. They were snapped quickly by a volunteer with her cell phone.

We do not know if they are males, females, or what.

Some of you ask why this is happening so much in Chicago.

I have no idea. I wish I did. I only know that it is happening.

Here are a few of their pictures.

This is urgent. We need to raise funds so we can get them out in the morning.

On a good note, Dr. Keith Curcio with North Georgia Veterinary Specialists in Buford, GA. completed a successful surgery on little Pippin.

"Pippin" had a very painful fracture of the femur at the stifle joint on his back left leg. He is darling with a sweet temperament.

From Laura Castel earlier today: "We are leaving North GA Vet specialists and heading to Alpharetta animal hospital."

(Notice, he is putting a little weight on that leg, where it was dangling before. Thank you all for helping him!)

So, that's where we are.

I'm up tonight in order to try to raise enough to get everyone out in the morning.

Keep the coffee coming and please keep me company as we try to do this one more time.

Please Lord, help us.

All My Love, Robin

>When these folks applied to adopt, and we asked how their Bichon was killed by a car, this was their response. We hear this on an average of once a week.

(These are NOT Bichons adopted from Small Paws.)

PLEASE don't take a chance with the life of your Bichon!
We do not adopt to people who allow their dogs to run loose.

We had him for the last five years, He is very obedient normally when we say "stay" he will stop wherever he is, so some times we are used to play with him in the yard for he loves to run around the yard in circles, during that time we did not put him on the leash, this particular day he was not on leash and did not yield to the command when he saw some dog across the road. It took off so suddenly the on coming driver did not have time to stop the car. That is how it happened.>

Humphrey Sisco
Dec 26, 1993~ Aug 30, 2006

When I first saw this beautiful picture of Cheri Sisco's "Humphrey", I thought it was truly the epitome of what we do, and why we do it. I wanted to use this black and white picture of Humphrey, taken only days before his death due to congestive heart failure, to let those who may be new to Small Paws, know what we do and why we do it. Without Small Paws, Humphrey would have never known love. He would have died in a kill shelter, sick and alone. Because of Small Paws, and Cheri Sisco, he lived, he loved, and he smiled.
