Gem of the Day: "We're all broken in
one way or another, some just hold the pieces
together better."
~Author Unknown~
11 month old little Bentley was rescued yesterday
from a shelter near Chicago. He was in danger
because he has a broken front elbow. He is in pain and needs surgery. Please
help us to save that leg.
He's just a baby
and so very sweet.

Dear Small Pawsers,
Small Paws Rescue Online Newsletter, especially to those of
you who may have recently seen us on December
20, 2013, on Fox and Friends in New York City ,
or on
Animal Planet on "Dogs 101.", or you may have read about us in Chicken Soup for the Soul: Find Your Happiness,
101 Stories about Finding Your Purpose,
Passion and Joy . You also may have seen us on "Inside Edition" with Deborah Norville!
If you missed our previous newsletter, here it is.
We have taken in an 11 month old little male
with a broken humerus. (Elbow)
He can't walk and
he is in pain.
![](http://www.smallpawsrescue.org/newsletters/images/bentlyrad.jpg)
The thing abut this particular surgery is
that it needs to be done as soon as possible
after the injury, so time is not on our side
this time.
He is presently at
the:
Naperville Animal
Hospital
1023 E. Ogden Ave.
Naperville, IL 60563
(630) 355-5300
Though some of the
vets there are pretty
good surgeons, they
say that this break is
a bad one and it
must have a Board Certified
Surgeon to do it.
Arboretum View Animal Hospital gives us a 30% rescue discount and we have
used them several times with great results.
VCA Arboretum View Animal Hospital
Phone: 630-963-0424

That's the good news.
The estimate to save this baby's leg, with
our discount is for from $2800-4200.00.
Now we could amputate
for probably $300-500.00.
But this is a BABY
with a long life ahead
of him. I really
want to try to save his
leg if at all possible.
We don't know what happened to him, but it
was some kind of trauma.
He will end up being a blessing to someone
where he can give and receive love, and it
will be easier to place him with four working
legs.
This is a short week for me. I have this
heart ablation thing scheduled for Friday,
Sept 26, and I have to be there at 6:30 A.M.
So we need to do
this now if we can.
For those of you who are new to Small Pawsing,
I'm the Co-Founder, along with Susan Sebring.
I'm also the Executive Director.
The thing I like LEAST about my job is to
come and ask you all for money for yet another
dog, for yet another broken bone or illness.
And when this one came in, I truly had a
talk with the Lord about this one and I asked,
"Really? Now? Really?"
And I'm sure He just laughed and laughed,
at and with me.
You see, He knows me inside and out and He
loves me anyway. He is a Friend like no other.
He knew me before I was conceived and nothing
that has or ever will ever happen to me,
or to any of us, is a surprise to Him.
In fact, God loves
you more than anyone else
ever has and more
than anyone else ever will.
The miracles I've seen in my life, as we
operate this Bichon Frise rescue organization
have been unbelievable, to say the least.
Many of them, you all have seen, too.
These two miracles come to mind first.
Tennessee Tommy is
FOUND!
This was the day that God taught me to be
specific in my prayers to Him.
And the one that changed my life for ever,
was this one.
You all know it.
Alligator Annie's
Story
He guides my path.
He leads me to go this
way or that.
So, when a week like this one is happening,
and it is a short week for me, even with
them falling from the skies, I trust Him
that He indeed knows what He is doing. He
is my Lord Jesus and I trust Him. He's proved
Himself over and over and you all know what
I mean.
Now, you all don't think that Bentley is
the only emergency to come in this week do
you?
In an apartment complex near Dallas, someone
evidently moved off and left their Bichon
in the parking lot. He is estimated at a
year and a half old.
Before I introduce you to "Dickens",
I want to show you what Dr. Wilson, at the
Colleyville Animal Clinic, sent to me.
![](http://www.smallpawsrescue.org/newsletters/images/dickenspelt.jpg)
"Here is a before photo and the matt
without the dog. Sorry the tech forgot to
put a ruler down on the table for perspective,
but the matt covered base of the neck to
the start of the tail. So about 12 inches."
![](http://www.smallpawsrescue.org/newsletters/images/dickenstx.jpg)
Here is little Dickens.
He didn't come in through a shelter.
He came in through a brave CAPTURE from a
very special group called Duck Team 6 Street Dog Rescue. They tried to trap him for days and finally.
late on Friday night,
he was out in the parking
lot and about to
go into their humane trap.
He had almost done this once before when
a boy came running at him, shooing him away.
Instead of loosing THIS moment, they netted
him and got him!
(He was not harmed in the net.)
![](http://www.smallpawsrescue.org/newsletters/images/dickenscap.jpg)
They tried to clean him up a little. He stayed
with one of the Duck
Team 6 people the first
night. The next morning,
our North Texas
Team Leader, Susie
Perez, picked him up and
got him to the hospital.
He had been loose for months, scourging for
food on his own.
![](http://www.smallpawsrescue.org/newsletters/images/dickensbichon.jpg)
This is how we knew he was a BICHON! This
and, wait for it..
SUSIE SAW HIM DO
THE WAVE!!
So the great news is that we got him before
something else did. (Cars and coyotes come
to mind.)
The bad news is he
is a mess. The matts
protected
him from mosquitoes
so he is free of
heartworm,
like Alligator Annie
was.
But he had all kinds of other worms. He had
to be shaved while he was under anesthesia
for his neuter. His bill will be $400-600.00
by the time we are done.
I named him "Dickens",
because
they had a DICKENS
of a time capturing
him!
SO we have these
two great saves.
AND Sara Pace is bringing two more in from
one of the shelters near Chicago. Pics to
follow. Each of them will be $400-600.00
also.
And one just came in in Northern California
with something terribly wrong with his eyes.
I'm guessing glaucoma. Thank you to Small
Paws Volunteer, Susan Silverstein, and to
Shannon Shankle, our North California Team
Leader, for assisting with this owner surrender.
We knew nothing about his eyes being in this
bad of condition. We are getting him to a
vet ASAP.
![](http://www.smallpawsrescue.org/newsletters/images/pepperca.jpg)
This is Pepper in Northern California. Oh
My Lord.
He is four years and 10 months old and at
least he is a happy boy, but those EYES need
attention and fast!
So these are our needs. For Bentley, Dickens,
and Pepper.
If they could type,
we wouldn't need me.
That's what I'm doing
now.
Telling you that they are asking for your
help and thanking you for supporting this
magnificent obsession we call Small Paws
Rescue.
I will issue any matching challenges that
come in.
Thanks for listening.
All My Love, Robin

We had him for the last five years, He is
very obedient normally when we say "stay"
he will stop wherever he is, so some times
we are used to play with him in the yard
for he loves to run around the yard in circles,
during that time we did not put him on the
leash, this particular day he was not on
leash and did not yield to the command when
he saw some dog across the road. It took
off so suddenly the on coming driver did
not have time to stop the car. That is how
it happened.>

Dec 26, 1993~ Aug 30, 2006
When I first saw this beautiful picture of
Cheri Sisco's "Humphrey", I thought
it was truly the epitome of what we do, and
why we do it. I wanted to use this black
and white picture of Humphrey, taken only
days before his death due to congestive heart
failure, to let those who may be new to Small
Paws, know what we do and why we do it. Without
Small Paws, Humphrey would have never known
love. He would have died in a kill shelter,
sick and alone. Because of Small Paws, and
Cheri Sisco, he lived, he loved, and he smiled.
