Gem of the Day: “All his life he tried to be a good person. Many times, however, he failed. For after all, he was only human. He wasn’t a dog.”

~Charles M Schulz.~

Dear Small Pawsers,

We have four new matching donation challenges. Little Bamboo needs a $3000.00 surgery tomorrow!

What is a matching donation challenge?

First from Eileen Boehne, at eileen@importingsolutions.com, a first time challenger from the Great State of Tennessee, we have this challenge for $250.00! Thank you Eileen! I hope someone can match you for Bamboo’s surgery!

“When I saw the name Higgins I couldn’t resist- He was my very first Bichon rescue! Please join me and match my $250 donation!”

Next, we have this challenge for $250.00 from Dawn Bove! Thank you again, Dawn! Is there anyone who can match Dawn?

So this is where we are for the nine dogs listed below and for Bamboo to have surgery to remove his broken leg that is an old injury. I’m still here and will issue matching challenge donations if any come in! All My Love, Robin

Dear Small Pawsers,

Well, it’s starting, just as we all knew it would.

They are coming back, sometimes in pairs.

1. First, I need to tell you about 3-4 year old precious little Bamboo.

This was a BAD break of his femur.

Bamboo was found as a stray near Chicago with his back right leg dangling.

We rushed him to VCA Aurora only to find out that this is an old fracture that he has been dragging around for some time.

It gets in his way and the surgeons recommended amputation. He will be able to run and play again after it is gone.

The estimate for all of Bamboo’s vetting, including the amputation, comes to $4,104.35 minus our rescue discount of $1,148.29, bringing it to $3,016.00.

Dr. Blasso at Plainfield Veterinary Clinic is going to do the amputation. The surgeons at VCA Aurora said he is more than capable of doing it and it would save a few thousand dollars.

Dr. Blasso wants to amputate tomorrow if we can raise the funds needed.

But wait. Their’s more. Of COURSE there is.

2. Meet 6 Year old Gus. He just looked like a Gus to me. He was a stray in pretty bad shape near a Chicago shelter. He said he once knew a Bichon and we believe him. His vetting and quarantine will run about $1400.00.

3. Meet 8 Year Old Maui. She was a stray at a shelter near Chicago. That little face is asking for a real home again. She did nothing to deserve this. Her vetting will be about $1400.00.

4. Meet 3-4 Year Old Kona. He’s a fast one! Faster than the camera! He was a stray at a shelter near Chicago. His vetting will be about $1200.00.

5 & 6. Meet Fluffy and Tucker. Their owner was transferred overseas and couldn’t take them. They were very loved and received excellent care. They are in AZ. They are already fully vetted! Yay!! They MUST NO EXCEPTIONS be adopted together.

“We are Fluffy and Tucker and we are 2 year old bonded males and must be adopted together.
We are litter mates and have been together our entire lives. We each weigh about 10 pounds.
We are calm, sweet, very affectionate and would love to sit in your lap and snuggle.
We are house trained at our foster home, crate trained, and learned how to use a doggy door in our foster home.
We walk well on a leash, ride well in a car and get along with our foster brother and sister.
Will you please give us a furever home? We are being fostered in AZ.”

7. Meet Tuppins. He is 10 lbs. Linda Ochsenfeld pulled him during Chicago rescue week. He is missing an eye. His vetting will be around $1400.00

8. Meet Star. She turned 10 years old on July 4th. Her owner died and left instructions to get Star back to Small Paws from whence she came. But then someone took her to a shelter and her time was almost up! Our Nevada Team Leader Extraordinaire, Cheryl Wahl, retrieved her immediately in Las Vegas.
She’s back home with us now and will be up for adoption. Star is fully vetted. Yay!

9. Higgins is 9 years old and has a raised red mass on his side that will need to be removed and sent to pathology. His vetting will run about $1500.00.

So Bamboo needs surgery tomorrow. That’s $3,016.06.

Add that to what the others need and it comes to $9,916.06. I’d probably round it up to $10,000.

They are all so darling and they really need us. I’m here and will issue all matching donation challenges!

What is a matching donation challenge?

Humphrey Sisco

Dec 26, 1993~ Aug 30, 2006 Pet Loss Link

When I first saw this beautiful picture of Cheri Sisco’s “Humphrey”, I thought it was truly the epitome of what we do, and why we do it. I wanted to use this black and white picture of Humphrey, taken only days before his death due to congestive heart failure, to let those who may be new to Small Paws, know what we do and why we do it. Without Small Paws, Humphrey would have never known love. He would have died in a kill shelter, sick and alone. Because of Small Paws, and Cheri Sisco, he lived, he loved, and he smiled.
