Five Matching Donation Challenges for Recent Bichon Emergencies. Brooks and Dunn.

Monday Morning, July 8, 2019

Gem Of The Day: We have five matching donation challenges

for recent life or death emergencies. two medical emergencies. See below for needs and estimates.

Brooks and Dunn were just sprung from the shelter. They are both sick with coughing and an upper respiratory infection and it looks as if one may have diarreah. We have them. Now we need to pay their vet bills which will run around $1500.00 each to fight the “crud”. Tails are down. They don’t feel a bit good.

Their time was up at the shelter.

We had to act and trust that funds would come in as they were sick. Sick dogs don’t make it at shelters due to concerns of  this spreading through the entire shelter. We are taking them in the back door straight to isolation at our vet’s office to begin IV treatment. Help is needed.

First, from Dawn Bove at d.bove@fcpmllc.com, we have this generous challenge for $500.00. Is there anyone who is able to match Dawn for the emergencies from yesterday? Dawn, thank you so very much.

Hello Robin: Looks like we all need to swing into action. I will make a challenge for $500.00. I pray someone will match me soon!! As Always sent with love, Dawn
~~~~~
Next, from Janet Bartos, at jpbartos@sbcglobal.net, we have this challenge for $250.00.
Janet, thank you for loving these little ones. They are so helpless but for people like you.
This is just heartbreaking for these babies!  Please issue a matching challenge for $250.00, as always in memory of my 2 precious Sr babies we adopted from you almost 12 yrs ago, Minnie & Sadie, who were a bonded pair.  I know this is just a drop in the bucket for the amount needed, but I’m praying there are others who can come forward also.  Love you all for what you do!  Janet Bartos in Little Rock, AR.
~~~~~
Next, from Terry and Pat Whitely, we have this challenge for $250.00. Thank you both so much for caring and I’m hoping someone can match your generous challenge.

Robin & Louie,

I would like to issue a challenge for $250.00 for others to help as well.

Terry & Pat Whitley
~~~~~~
Next, from Judy Deangelis at jadeangelis@cox.net, we have this challenge for $200.00. Is there anyone who can match Judy for these babies?
Hi Robin,
Your letter about the dogs that need help hit me hard today.  I am sitting with my 2 fluffs on each side of me and thank you for saving them.  You have been called to do this and we are blessed to have you working with your heart and soul to help them.  I can’t imagine how stressful it is at times when you see so many that need help.
Thank you for your tireless effort.
Please issue a matching challenge of $200.00.
Happy 4th of July weekend.
Judy DeAngelis
~~~~~~~

Next, from Deborah Berger in Florida, at normetski@aol.com, we have a challenge for $100.00. Thank you so much Deborah.

Robin,
Please issue a $100.00 challenge for these emergencies.

Deborah

So that’s where we are. We are also getting the third little male at CACC today. Pray for our volunteers who are running back and forth to the shelter to save lives.

Thanks to everyone who can help. If you adopted from Small Paws, your dog’s vet bills were paid by strangers. All for the love of a Bichon. Robin

“Hi Robin
I got an email from CACC shelter in Chicago about a bonded pair of young boys!! They were found as strays and are 😷 sick with respiratory crud. The pic is the intake picture at the shelter.  They want them to leave tomorrow , so they can receive treatment and have a chance at getting better. CACC is full and unfortunately if dogs become sick, they are the first to be put to sleep so it doesn’t spread throughout the entire shelter.

 These two babies need Small Paws Rescue! Linda Oschenfeld can go tomorrow morning to pick them up. We just need the okay from you!! They are bonded and may be siblings.

The third male is also a stray and he is ready! He HAS to leave tomorrow.
Could you please send out an email to the mailing list asking them to please please help us help these 3 precious boys !! I am told they are all very sweet but need rescue!
We are on standby so please let us know ASAP !!
Hugs, Sara “

And if that isn’t bad enough, The Arlington Texas shelter had a 9 year old male Bichon who had been surrendered by his owners, due to him having a broken jaw. Vicki Furstenburg picked “Beau” up when and took him directly to Roanoke Animal Hospital at http://www.roanokeanimalhospital.com/.

This happened around the Forth of July Holiday, of course when everyone was gone, and his bill is around $2000.00.

From Rae Steeb, North Texas Team Leader: On Jul 5, 2019, at 12:12 PM, Rae Steeb <raelynncraig@gmail.com> wrote:

“Just spoke with Roanoke. Beau is doing well. They want to keep him till the 12th. Clean break and Vet feels he was in a dog fight as they found several puncture wounds on his head. Probably how he broke his jaw. Treating with pain meds and antibiotics. He will need to be sedated again in 6 weeks if dr feels ok to remove wire then.”

We need to pay for Beau’s broken jaw, and we need to save “Brooks” and “Dunn” from the shelter, the two who have the crud. It usually costs about $1500.00 each for vetting when we are fighting the crud.

Then the third little stray above, well, his bill will be about $800.00 for everything  if HE doesn’t have the crud. So we are in need of about $5800.00 just for these four dogs on last day of a Holiday weekend.

I don’t do this often, for those of you who know me. A very few times in 21 years.

But I truly need your prayers.

I love what I do and I do believed I was called to do it.

There are just days upon days when I’m overwhelmed.

These Bichons are coming almost faster than we can grab them.

I never want to interrupt your Holiday weekends, or the Holiday weekends of our volunteers.

We have used most of the Auction funds to pay last week’s bills.

Now we need to pay the bill to Bidding for Good, the Auction company who takes a percentage of the profits in order to provide the software. This is standard operating procedure when putting on a charity auction.

With each Bichon we approve there could be something that will cost thousands to fix, that we don’t know about, yet.

I need to get the ok to go get Brooks and Dunn out, the two who have the crud. And the third stray. Even if you don’t read this until Monday morning, and you can help, please help them. I don’t know if a single one of you is even online. If I did chew my fingernails, they’d be gone. All My Love, Robin

P.S. Some Winning Bidders in our Online Auction have not received their items yet. Thank you all for donating items! The winning bidders are still waiting for their items.

Prayer Request

Dear Robin,
Our Miss Maudie failed a stone removal  yesterday and spent today in emergency surgery for a badly damaged urethra. She’ll spend  three days in ICU in hopes it won’t close, which would leave no acceptable option. We’d be grateful if you’d ask for thoughts and prayers from our SPR family.
Thanks Robin,
Mary Romeyn and Carol Miller

Prayer Report!!

We brought our baby hone tonight after her very hard week and she is peeing up a storm!
Thank you for caring so much.

Humphrey Sisco
Dec 26, 1993~ Aug 30, 2006

When I first saw this beautiful picture of Cheri Sisco’s “Humphrey”, I thought it was truly the epitome of what we do, and why we do it. I wanted to use this black and white picture of Humphrey, taken only days before his death due to congestive heart failure, to let those who may be new to Small Paws, know what we do and why we do it. Without Small Paws, Humphrey would have never known love. He would have died in a kill shelter, sick and alone. Because of Small Paws, and Cheri Sisco, he lived, he loved, and he smiled.
