We have an urgent situation and I’m feeling responsible. But I don’t know how to have done it differently. I’m just going to tell it to you now.

We have two of our rescue Bichons, Kate and Theo, who both have horrible infections in their mouths which we have not been able to get cleared up in a month. Both need to see a dental specialist.

The dentists could only see both of them this Tuesday, April 23.

I wanted to start raising funds last week but they hadn’t given me an estimate yet for one of them, “Kate”, yet.

Last week it was both April 15, (income tax day), and it was Holy Week. I just didn’t feel right coming and asking you for funds last week.

Then we finally got the estimates for both Theo and Kate late Friday afternoon, Easter Weekend.

It’s for between $2000-4,000, including them both. So we need to raise $4,000.00 by early tomorrow morning, Tuesday.

Here’s the problem. I will not be here to be able to issue matching donation challenges.

I’m having a pretty severe dental issue taken care of this morning that requires me to be under general anesthesia. (I evidently have a jaw deformity and my mouth doesn’t open wide enough to get some things repaired while I’m awake. I’ll be”out” most of the day today.)

I’m wondering should I have gone ahead and tried to raised funds during Holy Week. It just didn’t feel right.

“Theo” came from a shelter near Chicago about a month ago. His mouth is a hot mess. He drools infection and it hurts.

Our vet said he needs a specialist as he has something going on causing a very foul odor. Pulling some rotten teeth didn’t help. Antibiotics didn’t help. It’s deep in his roots and a regular vet can’t fix it. He is in pain.

“Kate” needs to go to the same Dental Specialist for a mouth AND teeth infection that hasn’t cleared up.

This is the dentist we will be using.

Julie Lyne is taking both “Kate” and “Theo” to Dr. Henry. She is driving there tonight and staying in a hotel so they can see the Dentist TOMORROW MORNING, Tuesday, April 23. We have to pay that day for services for both of them. I imagine both will need extractions or more oral surgery. This vet is very good with being conservative on pricing for us, but there could be more for him to do than we know. So we do need help. The last time I came and asked for help for several of our latests rescues, we raised only about a fourth of what was needed. It was right round Tax Day. These little ones don’t understand about how timing affects their veterinary care, or their pain.

So both Theo and Kate need your help in a very short time.

I hope  I didn’t totally screw up by waiting until this morning.

 All My Love, Robin

Humphrey Sisco
Dec 26, 1993~ Aug 30, 2006

When I first saw this beautiful picture of Cheri Sisco’s “Humphrey”, I thought it was truly the epitome of what we do, and why we do it. I wanted to use this black and white picture of Humphrey, taken only days before his death due to congestive heart failure, to let those who may be new to Small Paws, know what we do and why we do it. Without Small Paws, Humphrey would have never known love. He would have died in a kill shelter, sick and alone. Because of Small Paws, and Cheri Sisco, he lived, he loved, and he smiled.
