Gem Of The Day: “Maybe Christmas, he
thought, doesn’t come from the store. Maybe
Christmas.. perhaps.. means a little bit
more!”

Dr Seuss ~

with a long white beard, scroll down to see
that he’s REAL!)

I need to let you know that I screwed up!
Sadie’s dental surgery is TOMORROW, not last
Tuesday! I got my Tuesday’s mixed up! But
we did raise funds for her and our own Julie
Lyne is driving her to Wisconsin as we speak,
so Sadie can be there, in Wisconsin, at 7
in the morning for her dental surgery. Thank
you all so much for helping Sadie!
Now, as it seems to happen each December
for the past 20 years, owner surrenders are
coming in at the rate of two a day. Today,
it was in Ohio and in Flower Mounds, Texas.
That doesn’t count those that we are grabbing
at the shelters. This next one is only four
years old. His estimate is for around $800.00
for all of his quarantine and vetting.
We got this little guy out in the ST. NICK
of time and named him “Dickens”.
He came from a shelter in North Texas, and
SOMETHING GOT HIM ON HIS SHOULDER GOOD LORD
GOD HAVE MERCY. The shelter stapled it together
but our vet is cleaning it up and treating
it more extensively as well as giving antibiotics.
Then, last week we were contacted by the
CACC shelter in Chicago. This is the HUGE
shelter that serves the City of Chicago and
the surrounding areas. They can not turn
away any animal since they are funded by
the city.
They have MANY large pavilions and care for
between 800-1200 animals per day. THAT’S
why so many of our Bichons come from this
shelter. It’s the largest shelter that we
deal with, nationwide. They do have to euthanize
for space.
So Sara Rhodes, our Team Leader for Illinois,
got this call.
She texted me about two dogs who are extremely
bonded. When one is taken from their cage
the other screams. And vice-versa.
While visions of sugar plums danced in my
head,
I knew we must get them or they could end
up, well, it’s just not good.
The shelter is full. And there sat this very
bonded pair of strays.
The only problem is that one of the pair
is quite definitely a Shih Tzu. No question.
A Shih Tzu. Attached to the hip to a Bichon.
No doubt. And both were quite matted, oh
my.
“Christmas” is a two year old female.
She’s VERY attached to Santa.
“Santa” is only around one year
old. Santa and Christmas go together like
snowmen and kids on the first day of Christmas
break.
I just couldn’t do it. I couldn’t take Santa
and leave CHRISTMAS there.
So now, man, monkey or mouse, they are both
ours. Together.
Their vetting and quarantine will run around
$1600.00 together.
So with less than 8 days left, Small Paws
Rescue has Santa in their possession. AND..of
course he comes with Christmas.
So something bit the dickens out of Dickens,
and the fate of Santa and Christmas is in
our hands.
What can I do but pray their are people out
there who would have done what I did, keep
Santa and Christmas, together.
I’m here and will issue any matching challenges.
All My Love, Robin

Humphrey Sisco
Dec 26, 1993~ Aug
30, 2006
When I first saw
this beautiful picture
of
Cheri Sisco’s “Humphrey”,
I thought
it was truly the
epitome of what we
do, and
why we do it. I wanted
to use this black
and white picture
of Humphrey, taken
only
days before his death
due to congestive
heart
failure, to let those
who may be new to
Small
Paws, know what we
do and why we do
it. Without
Small Paws, Humphrey
would have never
known
love. He would have
died in a kill shelter,
sick and alone. Because
of Small Paws, and
Cheri Sisco, he lived,
he loved, and he
smiled.
