Welcome! We hope you enjoy reading about
the Bichons and the people who love them!
Most of you know me by now.
You know I'm going
to just come and
tell
you what is going
on.
Guys, we're drowning
here. HELP.
Bichons are coming
in at every turn,
it seems.
Our first priority
is for Bichons who
are
scheduled to be euthanized
at shelters, and
those numbers are
becoming alarming.
We can't keep going for them with no where
to put them and still needing funds to vet
them.
We have two Bichons in the Dallas area needing
foster homes, several in South Texas, and
eight here in Tulsa, OK, needing foster homes.
We have six in Chicago that just came in
this past week, as well.
I'm going to show you some pictures and videos
to see if we have any potential ADOPTERS
for these little guys!
The vet bills that are coming in are making
it difficult to keep taking more Bichons
in.

See Vet Bills Paid by Small Paws Rescue For
The First 8 Days of
January, 2012 Totalling
$15, 892.95 Averaging
$1,986.61 Per Day.
We get e-mails like the one below from a
shelter yesterday. Older owner surrenders
don't stand a chance at many shelters. There
is just no room.
They don't have to
place a stray hold
on
them as they know
that no one is coming
to
look for them.
Thankfully, many
of the shelter workers
contact
us for Bichons like
this. This is what
we
got yesterday, two
hours before the
shelter
was to close.
Did we scramble?
You bet we did.
Do we need help because
we've been scrambling
a lot, lately, all
over the country?
You bet we do.

Hi Robin,
![](http://www.smallpawsrescue.org/newsletters/images/shsave.jpg)
This guy was surrendered to the shelter today
and I really think he's more Poodle than
Bichon but I wanted to touch base with you
about him. He's very sweet, neutered, but
he is definitely older. The owner says he
is 11 years old, he does have pretty bad
tartar on his teeth and his eyes are cloudy.
They surrendered him because they are "moving".
I just wanted to get your thoughts. I know
the older dogs are much harder to place and
with his eyes being cloudy is it better to
let him go? I'm still learning so any feedback
would be appreciated. >
Sara Pace has taken in SIX in the Chicago
area in the last week. One of them is heartworm
positive.
At an average vetting
and quarantine cost
of $600.00 each,
that's how our vet
bills
get to be what they
do.
We don't have a "hit
by car" to
tell you about.
We don't have a heart
murmur surgery to
tell
you about.
We don't even have
a bladder stone surgery
to tell you about.
What we do have is
dozens of "ordinary
rescue cases"
to tell you about,
meaning
that the normal and
customary things
which
must be done are
really adding up
with so
many Bichons needing
help.
This is who we have
presently at the
Small
Animal Clinic of
Tulsa, needing homes.
They
are vetted and ready
to go.
Our first hope would
be a forever adoptive
home.

Humphrey Sisco
Dec 26, 1993~ Aug 30, 2006
When I first saw this beautiful picture of
Cheri Sisco's "Humphrey", I thought
it was truly the epitome of what we do, and
why we do it. I wanted to use this black
and white picture of Humphrey, taken only
days before his death due to congestive heart
failure, to let those who may be new to Small
Paws, know what we do and why we do it. Without
Small Paws, Humphrey would have never known
love. He would have died in a kill shelter,
sick and alone. Because of Small Paws, and
Cheri Sisco, he lived, he loved, and he smiled.
