If you missed our previous newsletter, here it is.
I have a couple of
things to tell you.
One is that our own personal Bichon, Chipper
Pressnall, the Bichon who started it all
for me, is in ICU with a severe case of pneumonia.
He just turned 15.
He's a strong dog and has been walking a
mile and a quarter, daily, until he just
collapsed yesterday with no warning and turned
blue.
We rushed him to
the ER where chest
x-rays
show the right lung
is completely involved
and the left is halfway
involved.
He has always been a stoic dog, meaning he
doesn't show signs of being sick when he
is sick. He just goes right along, eating,
wagging his tail, until BAM.
They had to intubate
him and of course
sedate
him, while they give
him IV antibiotics.
I've asked three specialists there if it
is time to make a decision and all three
feel that this is treatable.
Please pray for us
and for him.
For the first time ever, I signed a do not
resuscitate order for him.
If his heart stops
I know God will be there
to catch him and
he will be alright.
You know that we
will not let him
suffer.
No news from me about
Chipper is good news.
Secondly, I need
to let you know some
sad
news about one of
the Bichons we recently
rescued from one
of the Chicago area
shelters.
It's little three
year old "Willow".
When the veterinarian spayed Willow, her
ovaries looked odd.
So odd that they asked permission to send
them off to pathology where our their fears
were confirmed.
Willow was diagnosed with a very rare and
very aggressive ovarian cancer.
In the past 15 years, we have never seen
ovarian cancer before.
We just couldn't
believe it and asked for
the test to be confirmed
by a veterinary
oncologist.
He told us that it was already metastasized
to her bloodstream, to the blood vessels
attached to the ovaries, and there was no
hope for her.
With the veterinarians, Sara Pace, and our
Board of trustees, the decision to euthanize
was made and this precious baby girl went
home to God.
Had she been spayed
as a six month old,
this
would have never
happened.
I am so very sorry. I gasped when I heard
the diagnosis as I know you are, now.
It's pretty rare
that we lose one, as you
know.
Godspeed little Willow.
You were loved and
wanted.
Thanks for praying
for our Chipper.
All My Love, Robin

Paws Rescue
We had him for the last five years, He is
very obedient normally when we say "stay"
he will stop wherever he is, so some times
we are used to play with him in the yard
for he loves to run around the yard in circles,
during that time we did not put him on the
leash, this particular day he was not on
leash and did not yield to the command when
he saw some dog across the road. It took
off so suddenly the on coming driver did
not have time to stop the car. That is how
it happened.>

Dec 26, 1993~ Aug 30, 2006
When I first saw this beautiful picture of
Cheri Sisco's "Humphrey", I thought
it was truly the epitome of what we do, and
why we do it. I wanted to use this black
and white picture of Humphrey, taken only
days before his death due to congestive heart
failure, to let those who may be new to Small
Paws, know what we do and why we do it. Without
Small Paws, Humphrey would have never known
love. He would have died in a kill shelter,
sick and alone. Because of Small Paws, and
Cheri Sisco, he lived, he loved, and he smiled.
