Gem of the Day: "Youth is when you're allowed to stay up late on New Year's Eve. Middle age is when you're forced to."
~ Bill Vaughn ~

Baby "Charmer" is 12 weeks old and had surgery Yesterday to repair his broken front leg. He still needs to have normal vetting of neutering, vaccinations, and quarantine. Thank goodness he is heartworm negative.

One year old Sebastian was hit by a car and has his right eye removed yesterday. He has an elevated liver count and we are doing some testing to see what's going on there.

Libby and her 10 newborn babies. Nine have survived.

See vet bills paid by Small Paws Rescue for the first 23 days of December, 2013,
totalling $33,529.20 which is an average of $1,457.79 per day so far for December.

Dear Small Pawsers,

Small Paws Rescue Online Newsletter, especially to those of you who may have recently seen us on December 20, 2013, on Fox and Friends in New York City , or on Animal Planet on "Dogs 101.", or you may have read about us in Chicken Soup for the Soul: Find Your Happiness, 101 Stories about Finding Your Purpose, Passion and Joy . You also may have seen us on "Inside Edition" with Deborah Norville!

If you missed our previous newsletter, here it is.

Baby Charmer's surgery went well to repair his broken front leg.

Little Sebastian's surgery to remove his right eye was a little more complicated.

He has some pretty sever head trauma, so please remember him in your prayers. I wouldn't say he is out of the woods, just yet.

And so far, so good, with the remaining nine puppies that little Libby delivered last Saturday night.

We have a matching donation challenge for $1000.00 from Lori and Andy Foster, our Team Leaders to TN. Lori and Andy are charter members of SPR, since 1998.

We love and appreciate them so very much.

This challenge may be met in whole or in part. Thank you Andy and Lori!

From: ABichon@aol.com

Louie and Robin,
Our Boudreaux, Shelby and Lily shih tzu have been eating cheerios instead of dog treats all year so that they could send in a donation of $1,000.00 and a challenge to all those who have volunteered, fostered or adopted a bichon from Small Paws Rescue to send in a donation to help these needy bichons. No amount is too small (or too large) as it will all help these bichons who seem to continue to fall from the skies even though it is the holidays.
This donation is also in memory of my sister/brother-in-law's Scottish Terrier, Sir Bentley, who recently died of cancer. He was their dog child and they miss him terribly.
I'd also like to remember Robin and Dale's bichon, Chipper, who is the reason why Small Paws Rescue came to be. I was with Chipper through the years and he was such a special bichon to all who met him and will be solely missed.
Thank you,
Lori and Andy Foster
SPR TN Team Leader>

And from our friend in Southern California, Sue Hodges, we have this challenge for $100.00. Thank you again, Sue!

We all thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Happy New Year!

All My Love, Robin

>When these folks applied to adopt, and we asked how their Bichon was killed by a car, this was their response. We hear this on an average of once a week.

(These are NOT Bichons adopted from Small Paws.)

PLEASE don't take a chance with the life of your Bichon!

We had him for the last five years, He is very obedient normally when we say "stay" he will stop wherever he is, so some times we are used to play with him in the yard for he loves to run around the yard in circles, during that time we did not put him on the leash, this particular day he was not on leash and did not yield to the command when he saw some dog across the road. It took off so suddenly the on coming driver did not have time to stop the car. That is how it happened.>

Humphrey Sisco
Dec 26, 1993~ Aug 30, 2006

When I first saw this beautiful picture of Cheri Sisco's "Humphrey", I thought it was truly the epitome of what we do, and why we do it. I wanted to use this black and white picture of Humphrey, taken only days before his death due to congestive heart failure, to let those who may be new to Small Paws, know what we do and why we do it. Without Small Paws, Humphrey would have never known love. He would have died in a kill shelter, sick and alone. Because of Small Paws, and Cheri Sisco, he lived, he loved, and he smiled.
